OMJ Foundation Awards Scholarships and Educational Support to 12 Learners

The OMJ Foundation has fulfilled its scholarship promise to 12 outstanding learners who participated in the Basic Education Certificate Examination Preparation Intervention Project (BECEPIP) in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The learners, who took part in the three-month BECEPIP pilot programme, received educational and boarding support at a ceremony held at the Akuapem South Education Directorate in Aburi on Friday, September 11, 2026.

The support is part of the OMJ Foundation’s efforts to help young learners transition from basic school to Senior High School.

12 Learners Receive Educational Support

The 12 beneficiaries were selected from five schools that participated in the BECEPIP pilot programme.

Each learner received what the foundation calls the “OMJ Ketewa Biaa Nsua” package, which included a mattress, chop box and a single-piece travelling suitcase.

The package is one of three support categories under the foundation’s scholarship initiative. The other categories are the OMJ Full Sponsorship and Admission Scholarship packages.

The support is intended to help the beneficiaries with some of the basic items they need as they begin their Senior High School education.

Supporting the Transition to SHS

Moving from Junior High School to Senior High School can come with several new expenses for families, particularly for students entering boarding schools.

Items such as mattresses, storage boxes and travelling luggage are among the personal effects that students may need when reporting to school.

The OMJ Foundation’s support therefore provides practical assistance to the 12 learners as they begin the next stage of their education.

The initiative also recognises the academic effort of learners who participated in the BECEPIP programme.

What Is BECEPIP?

The Basic Education Certificate Examination Preparation Intervention Project, known as BECEPIP, is an educational initiative of the OMJ Foundation designed to support learners preparing for the BECE.

The pilot programme was implemented in five schools in the Akuapem South Municipality:

  • Konkonuru Methodist JHS
  • Kitase M/A JHS
  • Pakro Anglican JHS
  • Anamenampa JHS
  • Nsakye M/A JHS

The programme adopted a broad approach to BECE preparation, combining academic support with revision, examination techniques, learning resources, motivation, mentorship, performance monitoring and parental engagement.

Foundation Encourages Learners to Stay Focused

Speaking at the ceremony, founder and CEO of the OMJ Foundation, Osei Mensah Joseph, encouraged the beneficiaries to remain focused and disciplined as they begin their SHS education.

He urged the students to work hard and remain determined to succeed in their new schools.

He also encouraged parents to take an active role in their children’s academic development and general wellbeing.

The foundation expressed appreciation to the Akuapem South Education Directorate, headteachers and teaching and non-teaching staff of the five participating schools for their cooperation throughout the pilot programme.

Education Directorate Commends the Initiative

The Municipal Director of Education for Akuapem South, Elizabeth Afriyie, who chaired the ceremony, expressed appreciation to the OMJ Foundation for supporting the learners.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and use the opportunity to make themselves, their parents, schools and communities proud.

Madam Afriyie also noted improvements in the 2026 BECE performance in the municipality, particularly among the five schools that participated in the BECEPIP pilot.

She commended the foundation for supporting education and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the assistance they had received.

A Wider Scholarship Programme

The support given to the 12 learners forms part of a wider scholarship structure created by the OMJ Foundation.

Earlier information about the BECEPIP programme indicated that different levels of support were planned based on learners’ BECE performance.

The OMJ Full Scholarship, Admission Scholarship and OMJ Ketewa Biaa Nsua package were designed to provide different forms of assistance to outstanding learners.

The latest ceremony shows the foundation beginning to fulfil these commitments following the completion of the pilot programme.

Helping Students Prepare for SHS

For many students, the period immediately after the BECE can be an important transition.

Students must adjust to a new school environment, new subjects and, for some, boarding-school life away from home.

Providing basic educational and boarding materials can help reduce some of the pressure associated with that transition.

For the 12 beneficiaries, the support from the OMJ Foundation gives them additional resources as they begin their Senior High School journey.

The Importance of Community Support

The initiative also highlights the role that foundations and other organisations can play in supporting education.

Government provides the main public education structure, but community organisations, foundations and individuals can also contribute through scholarships, learning materials, mentorship and other forms of educational assistance.

Programmes such as BECEPIP can also provide targeted support to schools and learners who may need additional academic assistance.

Looking Ahead

The OMJ Foundation says the BECEPIP initiative is intended to contribute to improved educational outcomes in Akuapem South.

The pilot involved five schools, but the foundation’s broader vision is to continue supporting learners and expanding the reach of its educational interventions.

For the 12 beneficiaries, the immediate priority is now to settle into their respective Senior High Schools and continue their education with the support they have received.

The scholarship and educational support programme demonstrates how targeted assistance can help learners move from basic education into the next stage of their academic journey.
