Eric Danquah Foundation Awards Scholarships to Three University of Ghana Students
Three students of the University of Ghana have received scholarships from the Eric Danquah Foundation to support their academic studies during the 2025/2026 academic year.
The beneficiaries, Paul Tetteh Laryea, Emmanuel Bobbie and Lewis Tetteh Kusi, are all pursuing Bachelor of Science in Agriculture programmes with specialisation in Crop Science.
The scholarships are part of the Eric Danquah Foundation’s Exceptional Excellence Scholarship Scheme, which supports academically strong students and aims to develop the next generation of agricultural scientists in Ghana.
Three University of Ghana Students Receive Scholarships
The three beneficiaries were selected based on academic merit and their commitment to making meaningful contributions in their respective fields.
Paul Tetteh Laryea, Emmanuel Bobbie and Lewis Tetteh Kusi are studying Agriculture with a specialisation in Crop Science at the University of Ghana.
Their scholarships cover tuition and accommodation fees for the 2025/2026 academic year, providing important financial assistance as they continue their university education.
The support is intended to allow the students to concentrate on their academic work while developing the knowledge and skills required for careers in agricultural science.
Scholarship Focuses on Agricultural Science
The Eric Danquah Foundation has a particular focus on plant breeding, genetics and agricultural science.
Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, founder of the Foundation, said the scholarship programme was designed to nurture the next generation of plant scientists.
Agriculture remains an important part of Ghana’s economy and food system, making the development of skilled agricultural professionals an important area of education and research.
Through its scholarship programme, the Foundation is supporting students who have chosen Crop Science and related areas as their field of study.
The beneficiaries can therefore receive both financial assistance and academic guidance as they progress through their programmes.
Students Will Also Receive Mentorship
The scholarship support goes beyond paying tuition and accommodation fees.
According to the University of Ghana, the students will also receive mentorship and guidance to support their academic development and prepare them for careers in Agricultural Science.
Mentorship is an important part of the Foundation’s approach because students can benefit from guidance as they make decisions about their studies, research interests and future careers.
The Foundation’s broader programme seeks to strengthen capacity in Plant Breeding and Genetics and encourage students to pursue research and innovation in agriculture.
Emmanuel Bobbie Appreciates the Support
Speaking on behalf of the three beneficiaries, Emmanuel Bobbie expressed appreciation to the Eric Danquah Foundation for the scholarship.
He described the support as a significant milestone in his academic journey.
Bobbie also indicated that the assistance would motivate the beneficiaries to continue working hard and striving for excellence in their studies.
For students pursuing demanding university programmes, financial support can help reduce some of the pressure associated with tuition, accommodation and other educational expenses.
The scholarship therefore provides the beneficiaries with an opportunity to focus more closely on their academic development.
Fourth Cohort of EDF Scholarship Beneficiaries
The three students form the fourth cohort of beneficiaries under the Eric Danquah Foundation’s Exceptional Excellence Scholarship Scheme.
Since the Foundation began supporting students at the University of Ghana in 2020, a total of 12 UG students have benefited from its scholarship initiatives.
The latest awards continue a programme that has supported students studying agricultural science and related areas.
Earlier beneficiaries have also received different forms of academic support, including financial assistance and mentorship.
The Foundation’s scholarship activities demonstrate its continued focus on developing young people who can contribute to agricultural research and innovation.
About the Eric Danquah Foundation
The Eric Danquah Foundation was established by Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, the founding director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement at the University of Ghana.
The Foundation was created after Professor Danquah received the GCHERA World Agriculture Prize on October 28, 2018.
Its main initiative is the High-flyers in Plant Breeding and Genetics Programme.
The programme seeks to nurture a new generation of skilled agricultural scientists who can contribute to innovation and research excellence in Africa.
The Foundation’s work therefore combines scholarship support with the broader goal of building human capacity in agricultural science.
Building Ghana’s Future Agricultural Scientists
The scholarship programme comes at a time when Ghana continues to need professionals with specialised knowledge in agriculture, crop production, genetics and plant breeding.
Students trained in these areas can contribute to research, crop improvement, food production and agricultural development.
By supporting students at the tertiary level, the Foundation is investing in young people who may eventually contribute to Ghana’s agricultural research institutions, universities, private sector and farming communities.
The mentorship component can also help beneficiaries understand how their academic training can be applied to real-world agricultural challenges.
Why Agricultural Scholarships Matter
University education can be financially demanding for students and their families.
Tuition, accommodation, learning materials and other academic expenses can create challenges, particularly for students pursuing specialised programmes.
Scholarships can help reduce some of these financial barriers and allow students to remain focused on their studies.
For students in agricultural science, scholarship programmes can also encourage more young people to pursue areas such as crop science, plant breeding and genetics.
The Eric Danquah Foundation’s programme combines this financial support with mentorship, giving beneficiaries additional guidance as they prepare for professional careers.
Supporting Academic Excellence
The selection of the three beneficiaries was based on merit and their commitment to their respective fields.
This means the scholarship scheme places emphasis on academic performance and the potential of students to contribute to their disciplines.
The three beneficiaries are now part of a growing group of University of Ghana students who have received support from the Eric Danquah Foundation since 2020.
Their academic journey will continue with the financial assistance provided through the 2025/2026 scholarship.
Looking Ahead
The Eric Danquah Foundation’s scholarship programme is expected to continue supporting students interested in plant science and agricultural research.
As the fourth cohort of beneficiaries, Paul Tetteh Laryea, Emmanuel Bobbie and Lewis Tetteh Kusi join previous recipients who have benefited from the Foundation’s commitment to agricultural education.
The combination of tuition and accommodation support, mentorship and academic guidance provides the beneficiaries with assistance beyond the classroom.
Their studies in Crop Science could also position them to contribute to research and innovation aimed at improving agriculture and food security.
Conclusion
The Eric Danquah Foundation has awarded scholarships to three University of Ghana students pursuing Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with specialisation in Crop Science.
Paul Tetteh Laryea, Emmanuel Bobbie and Lewis Tetteh Kusi will receive support covering tuition and accommodation for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The students will also benefit from mentorship and guidance as part of the Foundation’s effort to develop future professionals in agricultural science.
The three beneficiaries represent the fourth cohort under the Foundation’s Exceptional Excellence Scholarship Scheme, bringing the total number of University of Ghana students supported by the Foundation since 2020 to 12.
